MORE THAN AN ACTIVITY BOOK
Why does a grandparent make that dish? What makes a celebration special? My Roots makes room for those questions—and the conversations that follow.
There is no single way to belong to a culture.
Every connection is worth exploring.
A GROWING COLLECTION OF FAMILY STORIES
Start exploring with these first four books. Our collection will keep growing, making room for more cultures, more family connections, and more stories to discover.

Lanterns, island life & family stories.

Coquí songs, music & shared memories.

Carnevale, little discoveries & family traditions.

Paper patterns, living traditions & family stories.

CULTURE IS SOMETHING WE SHARE
A tune from Grandpa can start a story. A celebration Grandma remembers can spark a question. My Roots gives children playful ways to explore the cultures connected to their families—and discover what those connections mean to them.

A PAGE CAN OPEN A CONVERSATION
Learning about your roots can start with someone who remembers. Let a page invite a story from a grandparent, an older relative, or another trusted grown-up.
Color a parol. Ask a grandparent: “What do you remember about celebrations when you were little?” Draw one detail from their story.
Explore this family moment →Draw a favorite family dish. Ask Grandma or Grandpa who taught them to make it, and when the family used to eat it together.
Explore this family moment →Ask about a game or a place they loved as a child. Share something you love now. What feels familiar? What is different?
Explore this family moment →These are optional ideas for exploring together. Every family has its own stories, and children choose what they want to share.
FOR THE CHILD YOU HAVE IN MIND
For parents, grandparents, relatives, and friends who want to give a child a way to explore their family’s stories.
WHY WE STARTED PAHIYUM PRESS

A child’s everyday world may look very different from the world their parents or grandparents grew up in. They may speak a different language, eat different foods at school, and celebrate traditions their family is still getting to know.
Yet another part of their story lives in family recipes, familiar expressions, celebrations, and memories of a place they may never have visited.
We started Pahiyum Press to help children explore that part of their story.
We believe children deserve opportunities to learn about the cultures connected to their families. Understanding those connections can bring new meaning to everyday moments: why a grandparent prepares a particular dish, why a celebration matters, or why a family tradition has been passed down.
These discoveries can open conversations about belonging, family, and identity. They can help children ask questions, hear stories, and find connections between the place they call home and the places their families come from.
Our books make room for those conversations through coloring, puzzles, cultural discoveries, and activities to share with a grown-up. Children can explore at their own pace, bringing their own experiences and questions to every page.
There is no single way to belong to a culture. A child does not need to speak a particular language, have visited a particular place, or know every tradition to have a connection worth exploring.
Their identity can hold more than one language, more than one place, and more than one way of seeing the world.
At Pahiyum Press, we want to help families keep their stories within reach — and give children the space to discover what those stories mean to them.
A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT WONDER
The first My Roots books are designed for ages 5–7. They combine coloring, puzzles, drawing, and cultural discoveries. A grown-up can help with reading and conversations; children can explore at their own pace.
No. A child does not need to speak a particular language, have visited a place, or know every tradition to have a connection worth exploring. The books are in English and introduce some words from the featured culture.
Absolutely. Invite Grandma or Grandpa to share a childhood game, a recipe memory, or a story about a celebration. You can explore together in person or talk about a page on a call. An older relative or another trusted grown-up can share stories too.
Many coloring and drawing activities can be explored independently. Some instructions, puzzles, and conversations benefit from a grown-up’s support. Follow your child’s interests and take the pages at a comfortable pace.
The covers are in color. The printed interiors are black and white, ready for coloring and activities. Each of these first four books has 80 pages in an 8.5 × 11-inch paperback format. The colorful website scenes are adapted illustrations; the preview galleries show actual interior pages.
Yes. A book can be a meaningful gift from a grandparent, relative, or friend. Choose a culture connected to the child’s family, or one they are curious about. A personal memory or a note from you can make the gift especially meaningful.

OUR COMMITMENT TO BATANG PINANGGA
Founded in 2000 by Butch and Annabel Carpintero, Batang Pinangga supports children in the Philippines with a safe place to live, everyday care, and opportunities to learn. Its work brings together a local team in the Philippines and supporters in the Netherlands.
Education is part of that long-term care. Children receive help catching up at school, discovering their strengths, and continuing into further education or vocational training suited to their abilities.
Daily care and personal guidance help children find stability, build confidence, and focus on learning.
From reading and writing to secondary school and further study, support follows each child’s needs and progress.
Education support can continue after a child moves back to family or a host family, with school costs paid directly to the school.
HOW THESE BOOKS HELP
100% of the net proceeds after costs from our first four My Roots books will be donated to Batang Pinangga Foundation to help fund scholarships for Filipino children from families with limited financial resources.
Net proceeds means the amount remaining after costs, not the retail price. Pahiyum Press creates the books independently; this commitment does not imply foundation authorship or endorsement.
